Custom Kydex Ruger RXM Holsters

Almost nobody arrives at this page asking which RXM they own — there is only one. They arrive asking whether the Glock 19 holster already in the drawer will do.

The honest answer is usually, but not always, and the reason is worth two minutes of your time. Ruger built the slide to an existing standard and then had Magpul redesign the frame, so the top of this pistol is familiar and the bottom of it is not.

The serialised part on this pistol is a removable stainless insert rather than the frame, which is what allows the grip module to be changed at all. That is a paperwork detail rather than a fitment one — the shell only cares about the module currently bolted around it. Tell us what is on the gun today and that is what we press to.

Will a Glock 19 Holster Fit a Ruger RXM?

The question this pistol was born with, answered without the hedging. Ruger designed the RXM to work with the Glock Gen 3 ecosystem, and it largely does — but holsters are the one accessory category where largely is not the same as reliably.

The Rail Is Standard, So the Whole List Is Open

Unlike most of Ruger’s range, this one has a proper accessory rail under the dust cover, and it is a compact-service-size frame — which means you are not restricted to sub-compact light bodies. From our 53 light and laser options, these all suit an RXM:

  • Streamlight TLR-7 and TLR-7 HL-X, the most common choice on a gun this size
  • Streamlight TLR-1 and TLR-1 HL-X, if you want the output and can carry the length
  • SureFire X300U A and B, the duty-weight option
  • Olight PL Mini 3 or a Baldr S, where a smaller body or a laser suits you better

Optics. The RXM slide is cut for a micro red dot, and our shell is pressed with a sight channel that clears a shielded housing. Mention the optic model when you order, and mention suppressor-height irons separately if you run them — those stand above the dot window and want more clearance than the optic body alone.

Ruger RXM vs Glock 19, From a Holster’s Point of View

Not a review of either pistol — just the four things that decide whether one shell can hold both. Note that the two halves of this comparison point in opposite directions.

The slide says yes and the frame says maybe. Because retention is taken along the slide and forward of the trigger guard, plenty of Glock 19 shells hold an RXM perfectly well — but any shell that grips high on the frame runs into the reshaped guard and beavertail, and that is not something you want to discover while carrying. Near-Compatible Is the Worst Case

An outright mismatch is easy — the gun does not go in and you send the holster back. A near-fit is the dangerous one, because it closes, it feels acceptable in the shop, and it works loose over months of carry. That is the exact category this pistol falls into:

  • The RXM gets its own mold rather than being folded into an existing pattern from another manufacturer, however close the slide happens to be.
  • Where a customer already owns a shell from the other platform, we would rather talk it through first than take an order that might disappoint six months later.
  • Retention is set on the shell we actually pressed, so the tension you adjust at home is fine-tuning rather than compensation for the wrong shape.

Ruger RXM Holster Questions

Often, but not dependably enough that we would tell you to rely on it. Ruger built the RXM slide to the Glock Gen 3 pattern, and since a shell takes most of its hold along the slide and just forward of the trigger guard, a great many Glock 19 holsters do accept it. The ones that do not are the ones wrapping higher up the frame, because the Magpul grip module relieves the trigger guard and adds a beavertail that a Glock does not have. If you already own a G19 holster, try it before you rely on it, and tell us what you found.
Because it is the half Ruger and Magpul actually redesigned. The slide follows an existing standard almost exactly, so anything wrapping it behaves predictably. The frame is where the differences live: a relieved trigger guard to let you grip higher, and a beavertail that changes the profile behind the slide. Both of those sit in the region a well-fitted shell contacts, so a holster built to a Glock frame profile can bind or sit proud on an RXM even when the slide drops straight in.
We do, and it is a separate mold rather than a Glock shell relabelled. That is deliberate. Near-compatibility is the situation where retention goes wrong slowly instead of obviously — the pistol seats, it feels right for a while, and the fit loosens over months of carry. Pressing the RXM on its own buck means the shell is shaped around the frame it will actually spend its life on.
Yes, it takes Glock-pattern double-stack 9mm magazines, and it ships from the factory with Magpul GL9 bodies. For holster purposes this changes nothing at all, because magazines extend downward from the frame and never touch a surface the Kydex grips. It does matter for a spare carrier, though: a moulded pouch is pressed around a specific magazine body, so tell us whether you carry the Magpul or a Glock factory magazine and we will cut for that one.
Both, and this is one of the few Rugers where the full light list is genuinely open. The dust cover carries a proper accessory rail and the frame is compact-service sized, so a Streamlight TLR-7, a TLR-1 or a SureFire X300U all mount without looking out of proportion. The slide is cut for a micro red dot and our shell clears a shielded optic. Name both when you order, and flag taller iron sights separately, since they need more clearance than the dot alone.
Check with us. Swapping modules is one of the reasons to buy this pistol, but the module is the part of the gun a shell is most sensitive to, so a different size or shape can change how the holster sits even though the slide has not moved. Tell us which module is on the gun now and we will confirm whether your existing shell should still work or whether the new configuration wants its own press.
No, and that is unusual within a single manufacturer. The rest of our Ruger range is the LCP and LCP Max, the LC9, the Max-9, the SR9 pair and the 5.7, none of which share an outline with the RXM or with each other in a way that lets shells cross over. The RXM sits on its own because Ruger built it around a pattern from outside its own catalogue. Order it as its own line rather than as a Ruger.
The Triton 2.0 inside-the-waistband build is $60, the Gemini dual layer is $70 and the Hades sidecar carrying pistol and spare together is $90. A weapon light adds $20. Allow 10 to 14 business days, since every shell is cut after the order arrives. The RXM pattern is already tooled, so there is no mold-making delay on top of the normal turnaround.
