Custom Kydex H&K VP9 Holsters
There are at least four different slide lengths wearing the VP9 badge, and only two of the suffixes will admit to it. L tells you it is long. SK tells you it is short. The rest tell you nothing useful at all.
Since a shell is formed around slide length above almost everything else, that makes the letters on your pistol the whole conversation. Below is what each one actually means for the press.

What Your Suffix Does and Does Not Tell You
Work down the middle column. Two of these letters give the game away immediately, and two of them require you to actually look at the pistol — which is exactly why people order the wrong shell for this family.

If your marking is one of the two that says nothing about length, do not guess from the family name — the spread across this range is close to an inch and no shell absorbs that. Send a photograph from the side, or run a tape from the breech face to the muzzle and give us the figure. Either settles it in a message.

What Carries Across the VP9 Family
The family shares a grip philosophy, a trigger and a great deal of marketing. It does not share shells, and the reason is always the same: length.

Anything that changes the grip circumference is almost always fine. Anything that lengthens or shortens the slide almost never is.

A Standard Rail, Which Is Not a Given on This Badge
Worth stating plainly, because it is not true across the whole brand: the VP9 range carries an industry-standard rail, so a light bolts straight on with no adapter in between. That is a real advantage over the older USP side of the catalogue. Our light list runs to fifty-three entries, and on a VP9 the useful ones are these:
- Streamlight TLR-1 and TLR-1 HL-X, the natural pairing on a standard VP9 or a VP9L
- Streamlight TLR-7 and TLR-7 HL-X, better proportioned on a VP9SK
- SureFire X300U A and B for a duty-weight build
- Olight PL-2 Pro or a Modlite PL350 where output matters more than length
Optics. If H&K cut your slide for a micro dot, we relieve the roof of the shell so the optic housing never touches it, and fitting one does not move you off the line you already picked. Irons tall enough to show through the dot window are the separate item — they sit above the housing and the relief has to go further.

The VP9L is not a VP9 with a longer barrel bolted on. H&K gave it its own slide contour and cut as well as the extra length, so it differs from the standard gun along the top of the shell as well as at the muzzle. A family this large with naming this inconsistent is precisely where catalogue holsters give up and offer two shells for six pistols. Cutting after the order means we do not have to make that trade:
- Each of the six lines is held as its own pattern, including the two whose markings give no clue to their proportions.
- The VP9L is tooled against its actual slide contour rather than treated as a standard VP9 with extra room left at the muzzle.
- Grip panel and backstrap swaps are ignored deliberately, because they sit below where the shell makes contact and changing them should not cost you a holster.
