The Rail Question Comes Before the Light Question

Most brands make this simple: there is a rail, standard lights fit it, done. H&K split the difference across its own history. The USP family carries a proprietary rail with its own geometry, and mounting a conventional light to one means fitting a dedicated adapter underneath first.

An adapter is not an accessory as far as Kydex is concerned. It changes the outline of the dust cover, so the shell has to be formed with it in place. Tell us if you are running one.

VP9 Family — The Striker Range

H&K’s modern striker guns, and the part of the catalogue built to current standards throughout. Six lines here, separated mostly by slide length, with a couple of names that give no clue which size they are.

USP and HK45 — The Proprietary Rail

The classic hammer-fired range, and the reason this page starts with rails. These carry H&K’s own mounting standard, so a conventional light needs an adapter fitted before it will attach at all.

Two Rail Standards Under One Badge

Here is the split in plain terms. The P30, P2000 and the VP9 range carry an industry-standard rail, so a Streamlight TLR-1, a SureFire X300U or an Olight PL-2 Pro bolts straight on and the shell is formed around gun and light together, as normal.

The USP family does not. H&K designed its own rail geometry for those pistols, and a conventional light will not attach without a dedicated adapter underneath. That is worth knowing before you buy the light rather than after.

If you run a USP adapter, it is part of the pistol. The adapter bolts beneath the dust cover and changes the profile the Kydex closes around, so a shell formed for a bare USP will not seat one that is wearing it. Say so at the order stage. On the optic side, where a slide is milled for a micro dot we carry the sight channel deep enough to clear a shielded housing, and tall irons want it deeper still.

An Adapter Is Not an Accessory

The industry habit with a USP is to form the shell around the bare pistol and leave the dust cover area open, on the grounds that whatever is bolted there will fit through the gap. That works until retention has to come from the area you left open. What we do instead:

  • A USP rail adapter is treated as part of the pistol outline and pressed in, rather than cleared with an opening that gives the muzzle room to move.
  • The proprietary-rail guns and the standard-rail guns are never grouped, even where slide lengths are close, because the dust cover geometry differs beneath them.
  • We will tell you before you order that a conventional light cannot go on a USP unaided, instead of taking the order and letting you discover it at home.

Not directly. The USP family uses a mounting rail of H&K’s own design rather than the industry standard one, so a conventional light has no way to attach to it as it comes. Fitting a dedicated adapter under the dust cover is the usual route, and there are several made for exactly this. What matters for us is that the adapter changes the shape of the pistol where the shell closes, so tell us it is fitted and we will form the holster around gun and adapter together.
No, and that is the point of it. H&K designed the P2000 as an updated USP Compact and replaced the proprietary rail with an industry-standard one, so a normal weapon light bolts straight on with nothing in between. The same is true of the P30 and the VP9 range. If a light matters to you and you are still choosing between models, that difference is worth more attention than most spec-sheet comparisons.
No. The Compact runs a shorter slide and a shorter grip than the full-size USP, so it stops well inside a shell formed around the larger gun and the retention surfaces never line up properly. Our selector lists the USP, the USP Compact and the USP45 Full as separate lines, alongside the HK45 pair. Order the marking on your slide rather than the family name, and mention any rail adapter at the same time.
Size, and enough of it that they take separate patterns. The SK is the sub-compact, shorter in both the slide and the grip, while the P30L runs a longer slide than the standard P30. All three are their own lines here. The whole P30 range uses a standard rail, so light choice is not the complicating factor it is on the USP side — pick your size and the mounting question answers itself.
Six lines within the VP9 family, which makes it the largest single range in our H&K catalogue. The VP9SK is the sub-compact and the VP9L is the long slide, so those two names tell you what you need. The VP9A1F and VP9CC are the ones that do not announce their size, and the VP40 is the .40 calibre sibling. If your slide marking does not make the variant obvious, send us a photo and we will identify it before pressing.
Both, plus the HK45C USP line, all as separate patterns. These are full-size and compact .45s with real weight to them, which for most owners points toward outside-the-waistband carry where the belt can take the load rather than the waistband. As with the rest of the older range, check what rail your particular pistol carries and tell us whether anything is mounted beneath the dust cover.
Much of the current range is, particularly across the VP9 family, and where your slide is milled for a micro red dot we take the sight channel deep enough that a shielded housing passes through without contact. That does not change which line you order. The older hammer-fired guns are more variable, so if you have had a slide milled aftermarket, tell us what optic is going on and we will cut for that specific housing rather than a generic one.
The Hermes OWB starts at $60, the convertible Nestor is $75 and the Titan set with a matching carrier is $135, with a weapon light adding $20 where the pistol can take one. Turnaround runs 10 to 14 business days since every shell is formed after the order arrives. All 18 H&K lines are tooled, so no part of that is waiting on a new mold — though a USP wearing an adapter we have not seen before may need a conversation first.
