Less Slide, More Frame

Because the slide is recessed between the rails, a CZ presents less exposed slide and more frame than an equivalent pistol built the usual way round. A shell therefore takes a good deal of its grip off the frame and the trigger guard rather than off slide flats.

The upshot is that the small stuff matters more here. Slide length, trigger guard shape and grip contour all vary across this family, and none of those differences is forgiving.

Where the Rail Is, and Where It Is Not

The split here follows the age of the design rather than the price. The P-07, P-09, P-10 range, the SP-01 and the Shadow 2 all carry an accessory rail under the dust cover. The classic CZ 75 B and the RAMI do not, so there is nothing for a light to bolt to on those.

Where a rail exists, size the light to the frame. A P-10 S or a P-01 wants a compact body like the Streamlight TLR-7; an SP-01 or a Shadow 2 will carry a TLR-1 or an X300U without the balance suffering.

Optic cuts are newer on this brand than on most. Where your slide is milled for a micro dot we open the top of the shell far enough for a shielded housing to travel through it cleanly. Because the slide sits lower between the rails on the 75 pattern, that cut is worth getting right rather than approximating. Mention tall irons separately if you run them.

A Recessed Slide Changes Where the Shell Holds

Most Kydex is designed around a pistol whose slide is the widest thing at the top. Invert that and the retention geometry moves, which is why generic patterns tend to feel vague on a CZ. What we do about it:

  • Retention is taken where a CZ actually offers purchase, along the frame and the trigger guard, rather than assuming a broad slide flat that is not there.
  • The steel guns and the polymer guns are tooled apart even where the slide lengths look close, because the frames are shaped very differently below the rails.
  • Each P-10 size gets its own buck, so the compact is never asked to sit in a shell cut around the full-size gun.

CZ Holster Questions

Because the slide rides inside the frame rails rather than around the outside, which is the reverse of almost every other pistol. Less slide is exposed and the frame carries higher, so a shell has to take its grip from different surfaces than it would on a conventional design. A pattern built around a broad exposed slide has less to hold on a CZ, and that shows up as a vague fit rather than an obvious failure.
No, and this is where the family resemblance misleads. All three descend from the same design and share the recessed slide, but they differ in slide length, in frame material and in the shape of the dust cover, with the SP-01 carrying a rail the classic 75 B does not. Those are precisely the surfaces a shell closes around. We hold each as its own line. Order the marking on your slide rather than the family name.
Quite different, and it is worth knowing before you shop. The P-10 is striker-fired and built to a more conventional layout than the CZ 75 pattern it sits beside in the catalogue, so it behaves like the other polymer strikers on this site rather than like its own stablemates. Practically that means the P-10 sizes are separated by length in a straightforward way, which is not true anywhere else in the CZ range.
Not to the classic 75 B, and the same goes for the RAMI. Neither has an accessory rail under the dust cover, so there is no mounting point for a light to attach to in the first place. That is a property of those pistols rather than a limitation of our shells. If a light matters to you, the P-07, P-09, P-10 range, the SP-01 and the Shadow 2 all carry a rail and will take one.
Both, as separate lines. The Shadow 2 is a competition pistol carrying a lot of steel, and the Compact shortens it without turning it into a lightweight, so the two do not share a shell. Given the weight, most owners run these outside the waistband on a paddle or a wide-loop mount where the belt takes the load. Tell us if yours wears an optic or an aftermarket grip, since both affect how the shell has to be shaped.
Size, and enough of it to need separate tooling. Both are polymer-framed hammer guns, and the Compact shortens the slide and the grip against the full-size version. Our selector also carries the Nocturne variants of each on the same lines. If you are unsure which you have, the quickest check is whether your flush magazine leaves grip below your little finger, or send us a photograph from the side and we will identify it.
It affects how it shoots more than how it carries, but there is a knock-on effect worth mentioning. Because the slide sits down between the rails, the whole pistol sits a little lower relative to your belt line for a given ride height, which tends to work in your favour when concealing a P-01 or a PCR. It also means an optic cut has less material above it than you might expect, so that channel is worth cutting precisely rather than generously.
